JAROSLAV MATĚJKA – CELLO

Jaroslav Matějka was born in Karlovy Vary in 1969. He started to learn the cello as a six-year-old, with Prof. Jan Vychytil. He graduated from Prof. Viktor Moučka’s class at the Prague Conservatory, and pursued his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, under Prof. Miroslav Petráš. He has attended a lot of master classes abroad (e.g. at Viktring and Semmering, Austria).

Jaroslav Matějka works regularly with various Czech orchestras and records for the Czech Radio. His repertoire is focused chiefly on chamber music, a domain to which he has devoted most of his time ever since his conservatory studies.

He has been the assistant leader in the Prague Symphony Orchestra since 1994. His cello was made by the renowned Prague´s Master Violin maker Miroslav Komár.
